I've seen only eight episodes so far, but i gather that the benders
learn different skills (feats) within their bending ability
(affinity). The wikipedia article mentions that some waterbenders
can heal, and some others can control plants by controlling the
water within them, for example.
As for visual inspiration; so far I've seen Aang use Blow Down Foe,
Leap Over Obstacle, Run up Cliff(well, walls actually), Burst of
Speed, Aerial Maneuvering, and Blow Out Fire.
