By "Torkani Humatki" do you mean Humatki sworn to the service of the tribal king?

If so the king would be responsible for any deaths and that would be a political disaster for him even if it wasn't kinstrife.

I'm not sure what Dogs in the Vinyard games are like but if you want a Seven Samurai style game I'd make the Humakti a completely unaffiliated group. Then find a way of commiting them to protecting a particular clan - honour is useful for that. Of course protecting one clan can involve all sorts of interaction with other clans and groups.
