I am examining the feasability of a
Glorantha Track of events at U-CON 2001
in Ann Arbor, Michigan. My immediate
concern is to establish a major Glorantha
gaming event this year catering mainly to
North American audiences, the majority of
whom have not experienced a sizable
Glorantha-intensive gaming event in
several years. This could very easily
become an annual Glorantha event, should
it be successful.
Before I approach the commitee about the
possibility of obtaining space at U-CON,
I would like to ascertain the degree of
interest in such an offering. U-CON will
be held on November 16th, 17th and 18th,
2001. U-CON already hosts an annual
Tekumel Track of events, which may also
be of interest. The admission fee is
fairly low ($20 US), plus gamemasters
have their admission refunded upon
succesful completion of their events.
Event fees run about an additional $3 US
per event; thus, even with a full
schedule (six slots), the cost would be
no more than about $18 US.
Hotel rates should easily be under $75 US
per night, and will probably be closer to
$60 US. Detroit Metropolitan Airport is a
Northwest Airlines hub, so low-cost fares
(and direct flights) may be available.
Ann Arbor sits twenty minutes' drive west
of the airport, and transportation to and
from can be obtained for $25-50 US. Kindhearted
persons residing in the immediate
area also may offer to provide transport
for their fellow attendees.
For those inclined to stay on additional
days either before or after U-CON, there
are many area attractions including the
Detroit Institute of Arts, the African-
History Museum, the Henry Ford
Museum and Greenfield Village, and both
the Detroit and Toledo zoos. Detroit and
Windsor host several casinos as well, for
those so inclined.
Based on this, how likely would you be to participate in a Glorantha Track at U-CON 2001?
