I think the point is that they get to live the Orlanth Adventurous style Tomboy life, and have casual sex without preagnancy. A bit hard to live the warriors life and have kids, I think. The only real alternative is the Yelornan way of "remaining pure" *brrr*, and I don't really see the orlanthi lasses wanting to go that route.

They aren't giving away their fertility. They are deciding not to have children _yet_.

There was a cool (if a bit gruesome) idea sometime back that the BG are constantly mensturating. It will have to be very lite, or othervice they would die of bloodloss (or rather low hemoglobin, in Terran terms), but the idea of them bleeding slightly would surely be a strong mythical sign from their bloody goddess.
