I think that makes much more sense. (Accompanied with the assumption/understanding that a PC by their very nature outperforms a mortal in such things by default unless some specific mitigating circumstances come up.)

Not sure what you mean here. Each caste has a subset of 5 specific abilities to them?

So the charms have trees of prerequisites? As in, you must have this charm followed by this next charm? Are these strict paths of a single technique becoming more and more powerful, or are they more mix and match than that?
