Erm, ignore them totally. These are really old scenarios, and they don't really work with the current ideas of Glorantha. The poor volunteers who took on the task of updating them (hi Jeff) were told to gloss over the really difficult problems. Having run this a couple of times (under RQ and HW) I've found that the players have so much fun with the newtlings they barely notice the trolls at all...
Perhaps a reasonable compromise is to replace the scrolls with a value trollkin or two whose sole party trick is to recite something verbatim on command.
Just a thought.
