The remoteness of the rural clan holy-places makes the difficult to impose this restriction outside urban centres. Barntar may be a good 'cover' when asked your religion by the authorities.

I don't think that the Husband protectors are 'part' of the Ernalda cult, they are part of the pantheon worhsipped in Esrolia. Whereas Herotlings worship the Strom Tribe, the Esrolians seem to worship the Ernalda pantheon in which there are several husband-protectors, one of whom is Orlanth. What is the Orlanth cult like in Esrolia might be abetter question. My guess is that Orlanth Allfather is the aspect worshipped in Esrolia as the husband protector (good stead-husband, defender of the tula, supporter of justice roles) and that Orlanth Adventurous/Thunderous are not (maybe his peaceful subcults are allowed in but in the Allfather aspect)

Pantheons are important in Hero Wars. You communally worship a pantheon, but initiate (or devote) to a specific diety(or aspect of a diety). As a communal worhsipper you can gain divine aid from any member of the pantheon. Therefore if I as an Orlanthi want healing, I can ask Ernalda for Divine Aid, because she is part of the pantheon.
