I think Jeff and I were describing different forms of 'worship'. I agree that no theist can directly contact a spirit (a Great Spirit at least) without using Misapplied Worship. What I was thinking about was trailing off to the local Spirit Talker and abasing yourself, performing all sorts of abhorrent acts (to a theist), mostly simply for the Spirit Talker's amusement. The Spirit Talker would then do the real work of contacting the spirits.

This brings me back to an old problem of mine, just how does Misapplied Worship actually BEGIN? Can an individual just decide to start theistically worshipping some powerful... thingy... in the hope it grants some assistance, and when it miraculously WORKS you have the start of a Misapplied Worship? Or do you have to have some form of guidance, like a talkative Spirit Talker who lets slip a few significant details about their chosen Great Spirit, and thus give you a decent start? We discussed this long ago, but things have hopefully gelled into greater clarity since.
