The CharUn recently bred a winged mare and a carnivorous stallion. From a animistic PoV, a horse might integrate one of the missing parts (wings, fangs, claws etc) to regain the lost feature (but it have to overcome a very powerful spirit IMO).

Dunno how it would work in an Elmali quest.
