Mikko, I'm sorry if I was a little obscure - sometimes I'm so ecliptic even *I* haven't any idea what I'm raving about. And with so many on the list using English as their second or even third language, it pays to be as clear as possible.
I was thinking that every culture has a very finely tuned set of 'sub-verbal' ways of doing things that outsiders can never hope to master, and which can be used as a cause for insult if you need an excuse to start a fight. Whether or not to ask for second helpings, whether or not to loudly belch, how loud or long you laugh, how much you use your teeth as opposed to a cutting knife - all of these can either be signs of gratitude *or* direct insults to your host. Sometimes at the same time. :)
