A hoplite is a type of heavy infantryman. The Line infantry are a type of combined arms regiment. Heavy infantry are those who rely on shock and cohesion as their primary tactical methods. Light infantry and therefore light cavarly rely on attrition and disruption techniques.

Medium infantry are those that are of a less specialised tactical form than the other types. They can fight in line, an mostly do but they are less effective in shock actions. On the other hand they are far easier to train and equip.

Peltast is simply a light infantryman who fights with javelin, spear and light shield. The term was used because its recognised. I'm personally all for binning its use and calling the DH lights "Suvarians", as that is their historical name, much as pelstats were named for their shield.

Not one there. What other terms are causing problems? If you reel them out I can answer them.

No, my stuff in particular was developed for a rather fringe interest. Gregs military info and the stuff done for the minitures is more mainstream but still a tad esoteric for the average gamer. If you've never been into this stuff, you won't know it. Like anything the military world is packed with jargon.

Hope I can help out.
