MOB has an introductory article at:

They are also described in G:IttHW, and you'll turn up some good bits with a search on "moonboat" at the www.gloranthadigest.com archives.

The cover of "Strangers in Prax" (an old RuneQuest adventure from Avalon Hill) shows a moonboat that's landed, while "Pavis & Big Rubble" (Moon Design reprint) shows a rather different moonboat in flight.

IMO, no.

By moonbeams. Clouds and winds tend to muck them around, which is why they're seldom used outside the Glowline (where they benefit from a perpetual full moon *and* generally effective weather control).

Closer to the latter. But not really "galleons" at the Lunar Empire's tech level.
