A magician is a magic/religious specialist, which most people in Glorantha are not. Most Americans can drive; many can change their oil and radiator fluid, some can change sparkplugs, only a few can swap transmissions or rebuild an engine. The magicians would be in the last category, if Gloranthans were Americans and magic was automobile maintenance. The average Gloranthan uses magic but has better things to do than peek into the Other Worlds, learn esoteric myths, master complex rituals, and talk to spirits, daimons, essences, etc. Good thing, too, or everyone would starve.
