We've been using it as 'one of those mysteries' that you'd never find out but is always just there. Sort of like why every elder race has a recipe for 'swedish meatballs.'

Earlier someone had commented about the unrealistic size of some hillforts. They should remember that the old celtic & pre-celtic forts were designed to be a refuge in time of trouble, not a regularly occupied fortification. They would accomodate the tribe, its goods and all the herds as well (and have _some_ grazing, perhaps). And, of course, one can't dictate the size of the local hilltops. Well, not without a lot of help from Big Mama Gor.
