But while few people actually live "up" to the myths of a society, the myths of a society show how people are "supposed to behave." And in every society, particularly at times of crisis, that's what people try to do. Recent examples in the RW come to mind.
In Glorantha, in which regular folk have actually been with a God when he does his godly things, imagine how much more the pressure would be, especially if the gods had their own nasty ways to enforce behavior!
