While the word "myth" has this meaning in common parlance, in the context of your debate it actually means the opposite: myth is the truth. While myth may be open to interpretation, it is never ever untrue. Myths contain the High Truth of any religion.
Your definition of the term is simply, undeniably, wrong. This is more or less the consensus among people who study myth in the RW.
