Every now and then you have to undertake a heroquest
where you just *know* your chances of success are
minimal. You know, you quested twice in the last
three years, but the gods hinted that *this* might be
a good year for questing, so you assigned what you
could to quest magic in the sacred time, then you try
to conserve magic points, pick your best bet for a
quest, and plan to do the right things to get your
clan on the good side of the god in question, but
things just start going wrong.....and when you are
finally ready to quest your ancestors are ticked with
you, your clan magic is -7, you haven't succeeded at
any deeds that would honor the god in question and you
either have to use a weak questor or go out of
cult....and you are thinking, or please, just let me
not bring any further disaster's down on my head!
So then what? In general, has anyone noticed quests
where failure is likely to have less dire
consequences? It does seem like choosing to bring
back a treasure doesn't seem to have a negative flip
side like many of the other choices do (hint: do not
fail at Elmal guards the stead when you have chosen
"Have Elmal help when you are attacked"). Anyway, any
feelings on whether it is best to bail out at the
first opportunity, wait for signs that things are
going wrong, do your best to complete it and accept
the consequences?
Oh, and other than the general "questing too often
makes success less likely" rule, has anyone figured
out if it matters if you go back to the same quest or
to a different one?
