Just wait until you try the difficult game!
Here are my suggestions on exploring:
1) Have Vinga's pathfinder blessing running.
2) Issaries and Vinga worshippers are the best
explorers, followed by Odayla worshippers (per the
rule book)
3) Send out explorers in sea or fire season, and send
them out "slowly."
4) Don't send them too far out into unknown territory
at any given time.
5) Combat, magic, bargaining, and leadership may all
help (roughly in that order)
6) Give them a good sized escort. Three thanes and
half a dozen carls is probably the minimum for anyone
you want to see back, more is good if you can afford
it.
7) Have lots of hunters, they help exploration parties
(also per the rulebook)
8) I'm not sure if it helps, but I like to have magic
put into hunting, and have Odayla's tracking blessing
active....if having hunters helps, perhaps helping
your hunters helps too.
9) Don't send out anyone you can't afford to lose.
ring members probably are better than non-ring
members, but don't send out vital ring members....no
matter what you do, you will lose parties once in a
while (one party in twelve or so, on difficult,
following all of these suggestions, seems to be about
the lowest attrition I've seen)
10) At the start of the game, before you get too
attached to your clan, take a look at how many decent
explorers you have. I like to have two promising
explorers that I can afford to lose before I commit to
a clan, unless it is otherwise amazing.
I hope this helped a bit (most of it is in the FAQ, by the way)
