I was thinking more along the lines of Battlefront.com, though I realize it isn't a perfect match: a central location and purchasing venue recognized for quality games. You only download patches, from there.
But a 450 MB download is frankly not of the question for many computer gamers these days. Quite a lot own cable modems to maximize online massively multiplayer stuff.
