I'm not sure that it is wrong per se. Is it better to be a little unhappy, or to fail at the quest? Maybe you would have succeeded anyway, maybe not. I've wondered about the same effect, but almost always sacrifice our tears anyway, the exceptions being if I'm really nervous about the quest I sacrifice some horses at the first dismemberment, and if I'm feeling pretty cocky (typically later in the game) I may do nothing at the latter ones.
