Do not include large sections of a message in your reply. Especially not to add "Yeah, I agree" or "No, I disagree." Or be excoriated. If someone writes something good and you want to say "good show" please do. But don't include the whole message you praise. 2. Use an appropriate Subject line. 3. Learn the art of paraphrasing: Don't just quote and comment on a point-by-point basis. 4. No anonymous posting, please. Don't say something unless you're ready to stand by it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 6 Mar 1998 21:51:01 EST From: JULIAKIR Subject: Re: [RQ-RULES] enchantments and ENCHANT HOLY SYMBOL In a message dated 98-03-06 11:52:08 EST, you write: << > It struct me today that enchantments really need a lot more work. > For example, I think that the humakti (and others) gifts, at least > some of them, are enchantments. They are blessings of a god to and are maintained by the dedication of his followers. Thus then the initiate dies, or is excommunicated, the blessing expires. Note also that this blessing can be move from one iteam to another through a DI. I also wrote a spell which is a divine enchantment and let worshipers to temporarily an increase in cult related skills, as well as provide cults with real holy symbols. ENCHANT HOLY SYMBOL 1pt, Ritual (Enchantment), Stackable, Reusable This ritual requires the presence of at least 3 initiates, each of these must succeed in an enchant roll, all will sacrifice at least 1 point of power. The enchantment must be performed in a sanctified area and a successful Worship ceremony must be performed during the enchantment ritual. Two out of the three initial points of power sacrificed are used for conditions on the enchantment, the third point creates a matrix which gives the user +10% to all cult skills. The effect lasts for 15 minutes and requires personal magic points equal to power expended in the ritual. Additional points stacked, beyond the first three, will give another +10% to all cult skills. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Mar 1998 13:50:40 -0500 From: stancliff@commnections.com Subject: Re: [RQ-RULES] Shaking the tree Last month I sent a version of the following to Greg at Glorantha.com to see if he would reply... still waiting. When you ask yourself what Love really means, you first realize that there are many versions of the word (the Greeks had at least four words that we translate as love). Then you look at all of them and realize that they all have to do with that part of man that draws us together in sharing and caring for each other. Love helps us get along and makes us unified. It gives us Harmony! Fertility, on the other hand, is the aspect of Life and Nature that deals with growth and regrowth, birth and rebirth. It regenerates and resurrects. For this reason, IMC, I have swapped the runes for Uleria and Chalana Arroy. What are the results that stem from this decision? In the legend of the Boggles it is said that Uleria was the only one who could wed the Boggles without being damaged; this is because she used here power of Harmony to neutralize the Boggle's power of Disorder. They canceled out. Chalana Arroy is sworn to pacifism, and will not cause harm. This is because Fertility opposes Death and cannot embrace or tolerate it's practices. In the myth of Harrana Illor, the first harp, she uses her Harmony to destroy the demon of discord. This is obviously a name confusion. Harrana Illor was the predecessor of Chalana Arroy, and a healing goddess wouldn't act in this way. It must be Uleria, goddess of Love and Harmony who defeats the demon. While not specificly Gloranthan, I'm finding that it most strongly represents what I think of when I try and imagine what the Vadeli are up to, sorcery-wise. On a related tangent, some of the folks over on the Eternal Champion list were looking for conversions of spells from GURPS Conan, and while looking over the list I saw one that went perfectly with my idea of Vadeli sorcery... So, I offer for your amusement, the following vadeli sorcery spell: Homonculous Ritual (Enchant) Exotic (Vadeli) This spell allows the caster to grow a fetal-like image from his own flesh. This image, called a homonculous, is an incomplete creature possessing only STR, CON, SIZ, and DEX (commonly but a single point of each). This creature must be maintained in a glass bottle, and fed at least 1 hp worth of blood (from a member of the same species as the caster, but NEVER the caster's own) to remain alive. The caster must provide the flesh for the homonculous; while the ritual requires that the flesh be "of the caster", it need not come from his own body. Many Vadeli will take the unborn fetus from their own (or their woman's) body and use that, or will elect to find some other way to procure 1 SIZ worth of their own flesh. During the enchantment ritual, the caster sacrifices 4 points of POW, one each for STR, CON, and DEX, and the final one to seal the enchantment. Once enchanted, the caster may elect to move his spirit (INT and POW) into the homonculous at any time, no matter how far they are from one another (but not across planar boundaries), He can then observe and communicate with anyone who is present in the room where the homonculous is kept. The caster can cast magic (but his skills will change to reflect the reduced DEX of the homonculous, and be further cut by 25% by the restrictions of being confined within the bottle) but cannot perform physical actions, as it remains trapped within the bottle. The caster can return to his own body at will. If an enemy gains posession of a live homonculous, he can cast mind-affecting spells against the homonculous' creator at no Range. Thus, any sorcerer with a homonculous guards it well, lest it fall into the hands of his enemies. *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ End of RuneQuest-Rules-Digest V1 #32 ************************************ *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message.
