(Sandy really ought to have a webpage of >his own ). Not to my knowledge, and I was asked not to distribute it. Sorry. HOUSE RULES I agree that basic RQIII with Sandy's Sorcery system seems best. Conversion from normal RQIII to Rune Power variants etc... is quick and simple, and most other rules (decrease in SR for high attack percentage, passions etc...) are so minor as to be discarded. TEMPLE OF HEADS I don't think that building a Thanatari complex is a bad idea. Firstly, it *COULD* be used as a dungeon crawl. A big one. Secondly, a Thanatari temple, by it's nature, is not going to conflict with already written information - being secretive and concealed none of it's actions would have appeared in any of the sources Chaosium has produced, allowing us complete power over it. Thirdly, it can be used as more than a dungron crawl. PC infiltrators? I already have a Orlanthi/Vivamorti/Thanatari Iluminate PC in my game (boy does he regret joining THOSE cults). The only problem I can see is this, is this the place for creating a temple? Especially one set in Glorantha? I would have no objections, but when History and Background get posted on the Rules digest I could see other people being a bit upset. BTW I did write a short background for the Temple of Heads, and would be willing to post it when I return home next week (if people are willing to wait that long). I think a webpage is an excellent idea!!! Oh, another reason why Thanatari are a good choice is that, as Gamesmasters, we all know that Chaos is the best Nikk E. I see the temple layout similar to that of the Kali temple in the "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom". The outside above ground levels resembling a place, although one which had seem better days and underground passages leading into a mountain stronghold. The stronghold should have three major areas, one for each of the major factions. Chear up everybody there are 3 HP in this temple. They ofcourse hate each other as well as envious of the others' knowledge and power. Each seeks to unify the temple under his/her/its? control. There should be three sets of holding areas, as raiding the other sects pens is considered fair game. A mutual library is a must, but each faction as well as induviduals should have their own. One central holy area which must be shared by all and is considered as holy (no killing, head taking, or brain sucking permited), just to make things even more interesting. This area should also contain baracks for laymembers, undeclared initiates, and welcomed guests. I was surprised myself to find so many folks who thought that sorcery was broken, But, when I got my first look at Sandy's rules, I never looked back (well, I groaned a little at the thought of converting all my sorcery using NPCs, but that's just me ). > In my game I will never allow a Medieval European culture, it > is too big a clash with the Lunar style of an early iron age Roman > Empire (which is described as the most dynamic culture in > Glorantha). When I refer to the west at all it is as a Persian > culture, very early Islamic: "there is no god but the Invisible > God, and Malkion is his prophet". Which fits very well. However, since I haven't ever run a campaign on Glorantha, I simply cut and pasted the regions/religions/etc. I liked from the published products into my own game world (hence, I have cults like Thanatar and Mabelrode competing for space on the fringes). > I wouldn't be adverse to typing in a small number of NPC's and > dumping the files to text. It will not only overload this > compendium, but it is also more Gloranthan than rules based, > although it might be used to compare rules versions. As has been said in previous rules digests, it is often impossible to divorce the rules from the setting. So long as the discussions don't devolve into esoterica (i.e. "but Gorges Johanusen was the high priest of Than in 1610, so your character couldn't possibly have been an underling of his, because it is widely known he hated dwarves!"). If enough folks think it'll be a problem, I'll post my RQ writeup of Mabelrode, King of Swords, and we can tackle one of HIS temples. :) Or, we can create a God/dess out of the whole cloth, and take that route. Well, I wrote part of that, and even I admit that you can't leave it completely behind. The Glorantha list handles the mythic/interpretational mumbo-jumbo fine. Rules, as they apply to Glorantha (or anywhere else) are always welcome here. , *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Mar 1998 18:19:40 -0500 From: stancliff@commnections.com Subject: [RQ-RULES] Than Complex RU>Set Membership: RU>1 - God(In two pieces) RU>3 - High Priests RU>2 - Priests of Each Sect RU>2 - Acolytes each RU>Initiates, Lay Members/Visitors RU>Prisoners RU>Slaves/Undead 3HP+6P+6A=15 Rune levels x 30 Init ea = 450 Initiates (min) Sounds like a broo temple in Dorastor or Than Ulbar or Hallow Horra (sp) in Carmania or Peloria! I'm beginning to come to that conclusion myself. This would leave people free to do their characters in the systems they understand best, and if something needs clarifying, we can always ask (and possibly get something new, rules-wise, from the exchange). > The only problem I can see is this, is this the place for creating > a temple? Especially one set in Glorantha? I would have no > objections, but when History and Background get posted on the > Rules digest I could see other people being a bit upset. We could always post the purely Glorantha bits to the Glorantha Digest, and leave the rulesy bits here.
