Do not include large sections of a message in your reply. Especially not to add "Yeah, I agree" or "No, I disagree." Or be excoriated. If someone writes something good and you want to say "good show" please do. But don't include the whole message you praise. 2. Use an appropriate Subject line. 3. Learn the art of paraphrasing: Don't just quote and comment on a point-by-point basis. 4. No anonymous posting, please. Don't say something unless you're ready to stand by it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 13 Mar 1998 19:18:52 -0500 From: Tal Meta Subject: [RQ-RULES] Alternate, Non-G Idea? For those who don't want to do a Gloranthan setting group-NPC thing, how about this for an idea: "You awaken in a shaded knoll, disoriented and a bit groggy. You recall, dimly, that your asked you to join a quest on a foreign world to help . Others are rising around you, these must be the companions he said would be here to assist you." ******************************* Instead of a complex, or village, this is a disparate group of middling-power level "heroes" sent to another plane to performs some quest or another. Power level at the creator's discretion, but on the average should not be able to destroy civilizations single-handed. - - *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Mar 1998 20:03:50 EST From: Delecti Subject: Re: [RQ-RULES] Re: NPC << If enough folks think it'll be a problem, I'll post my RQ writeup of Mabelrode, King of Swords, and we can tackle one of HIS temples. :) >> Please do!!!! Easy enough... (the following was created specifically for my own campaign world, which has it's own versions of several places well known in various RPGs. Pan Tang lies southeast of the Lunar Empire, and Dragaera lies an equal distance to the southwest. Go figure. ) Mabelrode - Chaos / Death / Truth The Faceless, King of the Swords. In some representations, Mabelrode's face is always in shadow, while in others he appears with no face, only a smooth expanse of skin where a face should be. As the Sword King, he is a god of warriors and soldiers, whom he is known to bless with berserk rages in exchange for their devotion to him. He is a bloodthirsty god, but not as much so as many who hold Chaos as one of their runes. Cult in the World The cult of Mabelrode is far more popular in the lands directly surrounding Melnibone and Pan Tang than it is elsewhere in the world. However, a chance storm swept a band of priests returning home to Pan Tang north and west into the Middle Sea, eventually to a landfall near Golotha. With the open-minded policies of the Lunar Empire in vogue with the Empire, Mabelrode's priests found a warm reception in their new home. Since their arrival, they have spread ever northwards, opening a total of three arena-temples across the breadth of the Empire. Initiate Membership Requirements: standard. Skills: Maneuver, Orate, Speak Chaostongue, Million Spheres Lore, Sword Attack, Sword Parry.. Spirit Magic: Bladesharp, Bladeweave, Protection. Acolyte Membership Requirements: As per priests. Spirit Magic: Enhance CON, Enhance DEX, Mobility. Note: Once Acolyte status has been achieved, study of the Million Spheres begins in earnest, and acolytes are taught the beginnings of sorcery so that they might be better able to conjure demons. Priesthood Requirements: Must have mastered all the 'basic' Arts of sorcery, otherwise standard. Virtues are Energetic, Just, Cruel, Proud, Valorous. Note: Priests of Mabelrode are also sorcerers, a common practice in the pantheon to which Mabelrode belongs. Common Divine Magic: all Special Divine Magic: Berserk, Panic, TrueSword,. Sorcerous Arts: Intensity, Multispell, Range, Accuracy, Bloodbath*, Force, Permanence, Reinforce. Associated Gods (In areas where Mabelrode is more common) Arioch: teaches Sword Trance Balo: teaches Crack Chardhros: teaches Turn Undead Maluk: teaches Truespeak Xiombarg: teaches Living Blade Spirit Spells Improve (Parry): Bladeweave +5 %/+1 AP Divine Spells Sword Trance - See Axe Trance Sorcery Arts Bloodbath - This Art functions much like the Waertagi Art of Immersion, except that for it to work the caster annoint himself with the blood of a 'worthy' opponent that he himself killed in combat (sacrifices, bound / inhibited opponents won't work, it must be an opponent who stood at least an even chance of killing the caster). This Art is viable for as long as the blood remains fresh on the body of the caster (about a five minutes or so). *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Mar 1998 21:11:19 -0600 (CST) From: Kevin Rose Subject: [RQ-RULES] Re: Temple of Heads If you want to do a honking big temple you could do the one in the middle of the chaos wastes, in the tunneled hills. The item maybe anything none living. The amount of MP stored will equal to the intensity level of the spell cast. A person may normally have only one storage spell cast at a time. STORAGE ENCHANTMENT Ritual (Enchantment), High Ritual Magic This ritual creates a permanent storage device which can be used by anyone fitting the conditions on the item. It the MP in the item may be recharged by the use of the Storage spell and can hold MP equal to 5*POW expended in the ritual. The item to be turned into a storage device must already be enchanted, usually by an Enchant spell, or be otherwise magical such as a crystal. Note: This enchantment is not in a matrix form and can not be broken even if the item is broken, however in this case it could not be recharged, but can be dispelled. A sorcerer may have any number of such devices. ENCUMBER Ranged, Temporal, Low Magic A target overcome by this spell (MP vs POW) must immediately make a Fatigue check (CON roll). In addition each point of Intensity adds 5 ENC to the targets TOTAL ENC for the duration of the spell. The target can only be effected by the highest Intensity spell, but other Encumber spells will still" force additional Fatigue checks STABILIZE MIND Ritual (Ceremony), Temporal, Ritual High Magic Hard Either MP or POW maybe expended in this ritual If MP are expended, then the targets Int is increased by 1 point per intensity of the spell for purposes of refiguring modifiers and resisting mind affecting spells or effects. In this version the spell is temporal, but still takes 10 minutes to cast, and can be manipulated except by Ease and Speed. If POW is expended, then the targets difficulty level of learning a particular skill is permanently reduced by one category Hard to Medium, Medium to Easy, and Easy to Natural (1/2 Easy) POW needed to cast this spell is equal to (20-Int)/3 round up (1 minimum). Undead struck by this beam will take 1d6 points of damage to a specific location. No power vs power roll is needed and armor does not protect from this damage. Countermagic will protect as well as a mirror if it can be interposed ( Note: A highly reflective suit of plate armor, a shield, or certain spells may also do the job.) Each additional point of the spell will do another 1d6 points of damage SUN SWORD 1Pt, Touch, Nonstackable, Temporal, Reusable When cast on any sword, even a dagger will do, the weapon will glow a bright yellow or white color. Any creature of darkness, or any creature which is adversely effected by sun light, will take double damage from this weapon once armor is penetrated. In addition, a weapon with this spell on it will do damage to lead armor or weapons, used to parry it, at a rate equal to 1pt for every 5pts of damage the sword does. If used to parry a lead weapon it will do 1pt for every 5pts done by the lead weapon. PHOENIX 5Pt, Self, Stackable, Transient, Non-reusable The power of the Phoenix can be used in one of two ways. If the body of the caster is burned on his death, or the caster dies from fire, he will arise from his ashes with the next sunrise which shines upon his remains. This may occur the next day or centuries later depending on the circumstances of death. This is on of the reasons that Light worshippers burn their dead. The second use of this spell allows the caster to expend his life's energy to cause an explosion doing his power in d6 to all around him. The amount of damage decreases by 1d6 per 1 meter of distance and effects all as a salamander attack. Death in such a fashion is to say the least 'spectacular' and qualifies the candidate as having fulfilled the requirements for the first use of the spell. A person can only be a recipient of two such spells at any one time. ENCHANT HOLY SYMBOL 1pt, Ritual (Enchantment), Stackable, Reusable This ritual requires the presence of at least 3 initiates, each of these must succeed in an enchant roll, all will sacrifice at least 1 point of power. The enchantment must be performed in a sanctified area and a successful Worship ceremony must be performed during the enchantment ritual. Two out of the three initial points of power sacrificed are used for conditions on the enchantment, the third point creates a matrix which gives the user +10% to all cult skills. The effect lasts for 15 minutes and requires personal magic points equal to power expended in the ritual. Additional points stacked, beyond the first three, will give another +10% to all cult skills. *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Mar 1998 22:31:30 EST From: JULIAKIR Subject: [RQ-RULES] Explanations Hutakies - a race of jackel headed humanoids who came to my game world as a result of their world fading into legend. They originally worshiped Egyptian gods ( and were known as the Children of Anubis), but abandoned most of them due to divine apathy towards them. The only god they still follow is Seeker, whom did not leave them. Yorocius-Seeker - In order to become accepted in the new world Seeker had to prove that he is of this world. To do so, and in the best traditions of Egyption mythos, he assumed a combined godform with Yorocius (lots of champaining and hero questing by players to set this up) SOLARIAN SCHOOL - Hutakies and other worshipers of Yorocius-Seeker, known together as Solarians, practice sorcery as their form of cult magic. They regard Sorcery as a lower form of prayer and consider Divine magic as higher form of prayer. Therefore other sorcerors are considered demon worshipers since they pervert the "proper" rituals. Spirit magicians are considered to be pagans. Solarians are friendly to all light cults and are enemies to all associated with darkness, chaos, or other sorcery users. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. This temple is large, but the internal strife limits its power in the world. Thanatary taking other Thanatary's heads is a major problem. However, I am willing to put money on this, there are no rivals( or even maybe intelegent living things) for many miles around. Besides, everybody knows that this place has been abandoned ages ago.
