Do not include large sections of a message in your reply. Especially not to add "Yeah, I agree" or "No, I disagree." Or be excoriated. If someone writes something good and you want to say "good show" please do. But don't include the whole message you praise. 2. Use an appropriate Subject line. 3. Learn the art of paraphrasing: Don't just quote and comment on a point-by-point basis. 4. No anonymous posting, please. Indeed. An astrolabe is an instrument, rather like a nautical sextant, use for calulating latitudes and altitudes. It may also imply tables of trigonometry and logrithms. Modern folks use computer software. The Almagest is a written work by Ptolemy about astronomy/astrology. If no one has beaten me to it I'll dig through my source material. You could probably find good gaming references in Chivalry and Sorcery if you have those rules, if you don't and plan on running a Western campaign you should get them, it'sthe best fuedal game on the market. Well it was on the market once. *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Jun 1998 12:20:00 +0200 From: Alain.RAMEAU@total.com (Alain RAMEAU) Subject: [RQ-RULES] Random Treasures on my web page I have experienced some problems with my javascript program for random treasures, as it was not working with Netscape Navigator, but only with Internet Explorer. I cannot recommend these highly enough to anyone like me who has resisted buying copies of the boardgames. What I wanted to ask is whether questions relating to the boardgames are acceptable topics for this digest. Cheers - Chris. *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 04 Jun 1998 11:53:17 -0400 From: Tal Meta Subject: Re: [RQ-RULES] boardgames CWARD@srv0.bio.ed.ac.uk wrote: > > What I wanted to ask is whether questions relating to the boardgames > are acceptable topics for this digest. Hmm. Normally I'd say that the boardgames were more Glorantha-related than RQ related, but seeing how quiet it's been in here lately, why not? The "Nomad Gods" game is very rare, I doubt you will find many people that can discuss it. I do own "Dragon Pass" (and "White Bear, Red Moon"), but I have never been able to play it, and really couldn't discuss those rule either. My personal impression, especially after seeing the first *REAL* ad for RuneQuest:Slayers today, is that RuneQuest, and therefore the RuneQuest list, will move away from anything Gloranthan very soon. (Let's face it; what will there be to talk about when the other New Game comes out? answer: RQ:S ... ) (Even though there was a V. prominent Spirit Rune on the ad ... ) Might be wrong. At least anything TOO Gloranthan (although such might be non-existent). The converse is also true; many Gloranthan net-heads do not contribute to this list. My advice: take it to glorantha@chaosium.com, and don't let yourself get flamed into submissiveness and/or silence by anyone, including YT. From a strictly personal POV, discussion of the boardgames will be V. welcome there! My other advice: check out the Glorantha Web Page at Chaosium. My third advice: BUY BOOK OF DRASTIC RESOLUTIONS VOLUME PRAX !!! Among other things, it lets you turn DP and NG into one huge wargame, although you'll need to write the scenarios yourself ... (unless someone out there has already done so?) It is also, with the possible exception of Sun County (ie it's debatable), THE BEST RQ SUPPLEMENT SINCE PAVIS ... DON'T LET IT GO OOP, STEVE, IF YOU'RE OUT THERE !!! Hey !!! How about writing some scenarios yourself, and posting 'em? *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 06 Jun 1998 12:48:10 +0200 From: Julian Lord Subject: [RQ-RULES] SuperRuneQuest Hi, this is a crossover post to both the RQ Rules and Glorantha lists. This thread probably belongs to RQ Rules ... Fighters get eight attacks/round vs. zero-level humans.Equivalent to RQ 80% ? I think not. If you look at Sun County, and think about the Sun Dome soldiery a bit, it becomes obvious that 50% to 90% is ordinary soldier level. Zero-level humans. My own tweaked RQ rules work well at any level, I think... > > Again, I've never played that high, so could be v. wrong ... > > I have both in RQ (up to 200%) and AD&D (up to 20th level) > and both systems were at their limits (but still fun in a slightly > silly manner). well, I'm running 200% RQ, and think I'll go higher, but probably not up to four-figure percentiles. I have put in one 800%+ NPC (Argrath circa 1620). I have also played in an AD&D campaign which took our first level characters to 36th level (years of intensive play ... aah, we were young & foolish ... ), where even tweaked AD&D breaks down totally (ie it won't go no matter HOW hard you shove, or HOW hard you tweak ... ) Running the Argrath NPC felt like running an 8th level character to me ... *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ End of RuneQuest Rules Digest V1 #108 ************************************* *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message.
