Do not include large sections of a message in your reply. Especially not to add "Yeah, I agree" or "No, I disagree." Or be excoriated. If someone writes something good and you want to say "good show" please do. But don't include the whole message you praise. 2. Use an appropriate Subject line. 3. Learn the art of paraphrasing: Don't just quote and comment on a point-by-point basis. 4. No anonymous posting, please. First, this is a rather Glorantha-specific question, and so probably just belongs on the Glorantha Digest. You'll get more authoritative arguments over there. As to the question, I would say that it would depend on the exact type of Lodrilli the character is. If the Lodrilli is from Dara Happa, then the Yelmite probably would be very involved in the investiture anyway, as no DH noble is going to let the peasantry make their own leaders without his at least monitoring the process. A Lodril investiture in Pelanda (aka Carmania, depending in what era you play) would not recognize Yelm's authority except during periods when DH ruled there. A Lodrilli among the Men-and-a-half (properly, a Baba Ulodri worshipper, but we don't need to split hairs) probably wouldn't recognize Yelm in any religious aspect. Lodrilli from historically Orlanthi lands like Talastar and in the Lunar Risklands settlements might even accept Orlanth in that role. *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Jun 1998 16:14:44 +0200 From: Julian Lord Subject: Re: [RQ-RULES] Pantheon Preisthoods Despite the fact that this is the wrong list for your query, an answer: > I have a particular problem that has arisen in my game. I can see basically two ways of solving your problem. If there are no other acolytes, nor I would assume priests, within a season's travel (hey! that's pretty far away, at LEAST 2.000 km ... ) then there is a need for a PRIEST in the area. (I am assuming that there is some kind of Lodrilite community there. If not, then your guy basically shouldn't progress at all, 'cos he'd be without support and really ought to go back to the farmlands ... ) In this context, solution number one: Yes, the Sun Lord can elevate your guy, but this would necessarily involve doing a small (not too hard) heroquest for Lodril's approval, with the support of the local Lodrilite community, which would lead to a) rejection b)priesthood. An acolyte is, of course, an assistant priest, so where there's no priest to assist, there's no acolytes either. Solution number two: one season's travel to see the high priest, one seasons' worth (at least) of religious education and ritual, anointment, one season's travel back to the campaign lands. Again, as a full priest. Yeah, that's a whole year, actually. I've thought of a third one: your guy joins the Yelm cult and becomes an acolyte of the Lodril sub-cult of Yelm. A bit messy, and no good if he's of peasant origins ... *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Jun 1998 12:20:26 -0500 From: stancliff@commnections.com Subject: [RQ-RULES] Pantheon Preisthoods RU>I have a particular problem that has arisen in my game. RU>It should be noted that I use a hybrid of RQ2/3 rules. For acolyte status one RU>must have an 18 POW and 10 points of rune magic, plus meet all the other RU>requirements for priesthood. One of the requirements of becoming a Priest is that there must be a need for one in the local area and there must be enough initiates to support him. Also, all investitures of Initiates, Acolytes, Priests, and Rune Lords must be done by priests. Strictly by the rules, there is no way he can become an acolyte, priest or rune lord without moving to a temple area and proving his devotion. An option that I personally like is to allow a PC of heroic intent and proven devotion to gain an itinerate acolyte status from a regular temple. This person will be expected to carry a mobile shrine (like Orlanth priests), to hold seasonal worships, to teach the locals wherever he goes about the god, and to support his lay members and any local initiates with some spell and skill training while trying to get the lay members to journey to a temple to initiate. The itinerate acolyte will provide 100% of his own support while giving 50% of his time and income to the cult by performing religious duties and heroic deeds in the god's service. He is permitted to charge normal rates for his training if he has any masteries and to deduct food and supplies from his 50% donation (buying a house or living in expensive inns with his shrine account will be frowned upon). As an acolyte, he is not permitted to accept tithes or to initiate followers unless he receives a special dispensation from his home temple which will not be given until he has demonstrated that he is more intent on teaching than adventuring. Usually, if enough people become initiates, a real priest will be sent out once or twice a year to gather tithes and provide other needed functions until a large shrine can be formed to support a full-time priest. By having his own shrine, he will be able to recover his normal shine spells of Worship, Spell Teaching, Sanctify (if appropriate), and the shrine spell normal to the cult. Any other divine spells will have to be recovered in a temple as normal. He is able to travel at will as long as he can serve his god. By successfully casting a Worship spell on a holy day, he is entitled to a POW check. If he fails a Worship on High Holy Day, the normal penalties apply and he must return to at least a minor temple to be reinstated and to recover any spells. This is a serious problem for any priest, so plenty of ceremony should precede the casting of any Worship spell. In general, anyone can teach what they know, up to their skill%, but if they are not masters, it will count as research and be far less certain to succeed (RQ4 added a training skill which improved this slightly). Therefor they can not charge normal rates for any skill not mastered. This means it will be very hard to support oneself teaching non-mastered skills, so an itinerate acolyte will usually spend most of his spare time supporting himself by adventuring for money, farming, or crafts. to: INT:runequest-rules@MPGN.COM cc: INT:lackey@gator.net INT:afn50803@afn.org int:toobear@bio-photo.com *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Jun 1998 00:17:58 +0100 From: Mark Buckley Subject: [RQ-RULES] liches Hi. Some time ago, someone (sorry, forgot who!) posted ideas for liches in RQ. Did they make it to a Web page, or does someone have a summary? Any other interesting undead (or anti-undead) ideas lurking out there? I was looking at using the ideas for liches in the Elric! supplement 'The Bronze Grimoire', which mentions that, as part of the deal, if they get killed (i.e. lose all HP), they are brought back to full HP and lose 1 POW. It then goes on to say that, of course, liches will try to maximise their POW (and in Elric!, there is no max on POW). I can just see the characters: 'Ok, three of us sit on his head, while the remaining two stab him. Repeat for 3 days...' Hm. Maybe the liche should lose say 5 POW... cheers, markb - -- Mark Buckley *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Jun 1998 22:36:49 -0400 From: Tal Meta Subject: Re: [RQ-RULES] liches Mark Buckley wrote: > > Hi. Does anyone out there have any knowledge re: how this is envisioned, whether some manner of game mechanics has been devised, or any other info related to the improvement of spirit magic? Does this mean, for instance, that someone who knew Bladesharp 4 could, with experience improve it to Bladesharp 5, or rather is there a deal like with Sandy's Sorcery, where there is just one Bladesharp spell which can be improved through experience? Has anyone tried implementing such in their game? *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ End of RuneQuest Rules Digest V1 #118 ************************************* *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message.
