Thanx. I keep looking at this project, and reminding myself: at least I'm not tackling the Chinese or Vedic deities. :) The Celts'd be more than welcome. Someone was contemplating doing the Greek gods, awhile back, IIRC. I forget who exactly I lifted the text of the Hurling spell from; it could have been a website or one of the Fanzines. So,obviously I've intigrated a lot of info into the campaign;at one point attributing a fairly important NPC's fear of cats to an encounter with Irusan; the giant cat from the caves near Cruachan. The info I'd found ( in a who's-who type book)was seriously superficial, and I wondered about ever reading the story about him. A few weeks later I found the story(wherein Irusan carries off the cheif bard of Ireland;but thats neither here nor there), and cadged the following description of the big cat: Irusan A vibrating, impressive, impetuous sound was heard, like a raging tempest of fire in full blaze. The size of a bullock.Rapacious,jagged-eared,snub nosed, sharp-toothed, nimble, angry, vindictive, glare-eyed, terrible, sharp-clawed. Irusan, son of Arusen is the The King of the tribe of cats( house cats invluded). Irusan's wife is Spitfire. Irusan's daughter is Sharptooth. Irusan's sons are the Purrer and the Growler. Notes: I started with the "size of a bullock" and went from there.I thought a bullock was just your everyday standard bull, and used its SIZ.A bullock may turn out to be something different altogether;if so,adjust SIZ accordingly. I'd read somewhere about some type of big stoneage cave lion (sabretooth, maybe?) being about 20% bigger than cats today,so I jacked the big cat stats listed in the Rules up by something like 20 or 25%. *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.imagiconline.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Jul 1999 18:11:33 -0400 From: Tal Meta Subject: [RQ-RULES] DMD - Moradin for RQ/Greyhawk Gods of the Dwur MORADIN Runes: Earth, Work (x2), Fire Moradin is the Soul Forger. He is the creator of the Dwur, and the father to the entire Dwurin pantheon. Cult in the World The myths surrounding Moradin's creation of the dwurin at the heart of the world are many, but all agree on the central theme that it was Moradin who first crafted the dwurin from raw materials and breathed the spark of life into them. Though a just ruler, he is an equally harsh judge. Only twice in the memories of dwurinkind has he been forced to banish his children from his sight, first Laduguer, and later the twisted Diirinka. [Though the Suloise bear some of the blame for Diirinka and Diinkarazan's current status, Moradin blames his children more: had their greed not blinded them to the lies of the Suloise, they and their followers would not be the wretched creatures they are today.] Each clan celebrates the High Holy Day of the All-Father on a different date, usually corresponding to the coronation of the clan's first King. Lesser celebrations are also variable, sometimes being declared as little as a week in advance, to celebrate some new masterwork or victory of the clan. Temples to Moradin are always cut from the living rock, often at a place where two veins of different precious ore meet. One feature common to all temples is the central Forge and Anvil, which are both functional and ceremonial in nature. Priests of the All-Father wear their hair and beards long but neatly combed, along with dark grey robes interwoven with a blend of adamant and silver wire. In times of war, these are put aside for armor and helms of adamantine, chased with silver filligree. Lay Membership Requirements: Moradin is revered by all dwurin, but his call is strongest to those among his people who work the same crafts that legends say their creator worked. Smiths, stonecutters, and jewlers are most common, though some warriors heed his call as well (the dwurin are a martial race, as well as one devoted to work and crafts). Lay members are commonly called the Unworked. Skills taught by the cult include Dance, Dodge, Orate, Sing, Speak Languages, Crafts (many), Evaluate, Lores (Dwur, Mineral, Underdark, World), Devise, Listen, Scan, Ceremony, Hammer attack, and Shield parry. Initiate Membership Requirements: Standard. Moradin's initiates are commonly known as Craftsdwur, and spend many years learning the skills of their chosen profession. Spirit Magic: Bludgeon, Countermagic, Endurance, Heat Metal, Ignite, Mighty Blow, Mold Metal, Moradin's Blessing (Improve Smithing), Protection, Repair, Strong Hammer, Strength. Acolyte Membership Requirements: Standard. Known as the Mora'fadal, or Soul Anvils, acolytes of this faith serve their clans as teachers and craftsdwur of the first rank. It is seen as their most sacred duty to instruct and tutor the young, so as to forge an ever stronger community. Rune Lord Membership Requirements: As per priests. Known as the Mora'clab, or Soul Hammers, they are dedicated to protecting dwurin settlements from any and all threats, they serve both cult and clan as elite warriors in times of trouble. Though they technically serve as the military wing of the cult, some have been known to serve as priests in especially embattled clan holdings. Priesthood Requirements: Standard. Moradin's priests, are also often heads of dwurin clans, serving as both temporal and secular leaders. Priests are often called the Mora'dain (or Soul Forges) and they strive to always present a strong example to their own people of the proper way a dwur should live. They also encourage their own people to seek greatness in their crafts, for such greatness honors dwur, clan, and Moradin, as well. Virtues for Moradin include Conservative, Creative, Honorable, Proud, and Stubborn. Common Divine Magic: all. Special Divine Magic: Bless (Forge, Worshippers), Command (Gnomes, Salamanders), Copy, Earth Strength, Enhance Gustbran, Precision (Crafts), Shield, Summon (Gnome, Salamader), Sure Hammer, True Hammer. Associated Gods Berronar: provides Earthpower Clangeddin: provides Earth Grip Dugmaren: provides Clairvoyance Dumathoin: provides Turn Undead Vergadain: provides Spell Trading - -- talmeta@cybercomm.net - Heretic & Dilettante ICQ - 12594453 AIM - talmeta (note change!) I'm not sure so many people will change to G:tG, at least I won't. But I think one of the reason this list is quite calm, is because not so many people knows it exists. I was part of the old one, and when it desappeared, it took me ages before I realised it was still on somewhere else. And also, there are right now so many RQ sites with a lot of nice house rules that most of the rule questions and new stuffs are somewhere else. But sometimes, I read in the Glorantha list question more related to rules than to the World, and we (I?) should tell these people that this list exists and live. BTW, I've read few times ago somebody talking about the Illusion Art (in Sandy's Sorcery rules). I'm not aware of that. Is this a new version? (I mean more recent than the one published in The Booke of the Tentacles). Also, I've found somewhere some rules for the Henotheists (I don't remenber where), and I found it very interesting, but it makes the Henotheists very powerful, using sorcery AND Rune magic. When my Orlanthist saw that, he said 'What's the point being Orlanthist, if you can have the same PLUS sorcery with the Henotheists' (plaese do not flame my player, he still is a Sartarite and very proud and happy to be one). Opinions? I don't know about 'Over the Edge', but 'Hero Wars' is being done by the same guy that did 'Shadowfist' and 'Feng Shui'. These are both creative games with simple systems, which is apparently what was desired. The percentile, skill based, nature of RQ is deemed obsolete and has to be streamlined. If the new game has good systems in place for Hero Questing and Heroic Magics, Powers, and Magic Items, then it may be worth the loss of detail, bleeding, criticals, etc. I was referring to the guys on this list who started a new list to discuss a revamped RQ4 style game. There was some crossover for a while and most of them stopped posting here. This list changed servers since then and that might have lost some people, but I know that I was transferred without realizing that anything had changed. It wasn't until I responded to a message using the old address that I realized the move.
