In creating one of the NPCs for my current campaign, I went paging thru the CoC rulesbook and came up with the following, based on the spells Cloud Memory and Death spells.... MARCUS' BLOODBURN Attack, Ranged, Instant Exotic This spell was created by a Keoish sorcerer named Marcus of Cryllor. It requires Intensity equal to twice the SIZ of the target, and if the caster successfully overcomes the target in multiple POW vs. POW contests it will eventually cause the target to burst into flames. On the round in which it is cast, the target automatically takes 1d3 damage, and takes on a reddish hue, as if sunburned. On the second round, if the caster's POW overcomes the POW of the target again (the caster need not concentrate to accomplish this, however), the target takes another 1d3 damage and breaks out in whitish blisters (similar to second degree burns). On the third round (again, if the caster overcomes the target), the target's clothing begins to smolder and the damage rises to 1d4 as the skin of the target begins to blacken and char. On the fourth round, if the target fails a fourth and final contest against the caster, he bursts into flame, taking 1d10 damage per round until completely consumed. If cast prior to the fourth round, the following spells can successfully counter a Bloodburn: Call Cold (Intensity of at least 6), Neutraliaze Magic (vs. the Intensity of the Bloodburn), or Regenerate Damage (though if cast with an Intensity of 10 or less will simply prolong the agony of the target). This spell can also be nullified by a target who is under the effect of a Dream of Darkness spell at the time of casting, if he expends magic points equal to his SIZ. MARCUS' CLOUD MEMORY / RELEASE MEMORY Ranged, Instant Exotic This spell was created by a Keoish sorcerer named Marcus of Cryllor. When successfully cast upon a willing recipient, this spell blocks all conscious memory of a specific event (or a chain of events, if cast with Multispell). Intensity equal to the INT of the target must be used. If employed against an unwilling target, it becomes an Attack spell, which if it fails, intensifies the memory of the event or events in question. In either case, the memory to be blocked must be specific - "forget what you did yesterday" would not work, but "forget what you had for breakfast yesterday" would be acceptable. Memories blocked in this fashion still exist within the target's mind, and may bubble up out of the subconscious in the form of dreams. Such blockages can be removed through the reversed form of this spell, or by the psionic discipline of Mental Surgery (at TP7 - Adjust Memories). +++++ Marcus, BTW, is actually a fairly decent (if somewhat mysterious and vengeful) sort, who recently employed the group to recover a diabolic talisman that was stolen from an enemy of his and subsequently lost in the Pomarj... the original owner of said talisman (a high ranking member of the Horned Society) has since met a most untimely death, appearantly from spontaneous internal combustion.... - -- talmeta@cybercomm.net - Heretic, Dilettante, & God-Machine ICQ - 12594453 AIM - talmeta Homepage - *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.imagiconline.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Nov 1999 14:36:27 -0500 From: Tal Meta Subject: [RQ-RULES] DMD - Nobanion for RQ/Greyhawk Inspired by Eric Boyd's writeup in Powers & Pantheons.... NOBANION Runes: Strength, Beast, Fire Nobanion the Fire-maned is the principal diety of wemics and the few werelions known to exist. Cult in the World Nobanions is known to be one of the many sons of Fanthros the Skyrunner, though none know for certain who his mother was. The wemics of the Paynim plains claim it must have been Kehgya, while those of Hepmonaland point to the goddess Breeka. Wemics of other lands doubtless point to other local deities, as well. Nobanion himself has known may wives, each again varying with the pantheons of nearby cultures. The great plains cats (lions especially) are all considered sacred to him, as well. Nobanion's followers honor a long High Holy Day celebration, stretching from the 8th of Birthing to the 11th; in the northern lands this coresponds to the 1st through the 4th of Readying. Regular ceremonies are conducted after every hunt, as well. Shrines to Nobanion are typically built of leather and fur, stretched between the bones of antelopes, gazelles, or other herd animals. Shamans of Nobanion are recognized by the symbol of Nobanion's eye which appears on their forehead once they have completed their first Spirit Quest; their fetch typically takes the form of a young lion cub once formed. Lay Membership Requirements: All male wemics typically pay at least token respect to Nobanion, who personifies the qualities a pride leader should aspire to. Skills taught by the cult include Dodge, Jump, Leap, Swim, Speak Languages, Craft (spearmaking, etc.), First Aid, Lores (Animal, Wemic, World), Devise, Listen, Scan, Scent, Sneak, Ceremony, and Spear attack. Initiate Membership Requirements: Standard. Those who would study to become shamans of Nobanion typically do so in their seventh summer, coresponding with their first hunt. Spirit Magic: Most spirit magic is available from the shamans of this cult, but they commonly teach Bladesharp, Coordination, Mindspeech, Protection, Spirit Claws, Strength, and Vigor. Priesthood / Shamans Requirements: Standard for shamans. Known as Shamans of the Paw, Nobanion's shamans look after the health of their tribes and counsel the tribe's chieftain both in peace and in times of war. Typicially they counsel against overhunting, waste, and greed. At the same time, the virtues of strength over weakness, honor before cowardice, and the pride over the individual are also streseed. Most are also isolationists, cautioning against dealing with other races unless it is they who are setting the terms of the agreement. Virtues for Nobanion include Honorable, Loyal, Proud, and Social. Common Divine Magic: Call Followers, Command Cult Spirit, Divination, Enchant Holy Symbol, Excommunication, Group Casting, Initiate, Sanctify, Spellteaching, Warding, Worship Nobanion. Special Divine Magic: Catch Scent, Claws of Nobanion, Firespear, Nobanion's Fury, Replenish Game, Strength of Nobanion.
