But for NPCs in RuneQuest there isn't really any training > time at all. As a GM, I just say "The count has 200 troops with d20 + 40% > in musket" and it's a done deal I tend to just give them a level. The Count has 125 troops that are trained thus, 50% and 75 vetrans at 75%. In my mind I justify the experince of his troops. I may do it on the spare of the moment and take as much time as rolling the dice. The end result is the same for NPC's. > Training time rules only apply to player characters, but I also agree > about the house-rule thing; if you rule that different skills have different > training times then a musket would become much more attractive to a player > character. They also apply to NPC's. I may not make all the rolls for 200 NPC's but I will for those NPC's that travel with the PC's. If the rolls arn't made, any increases should be made with an eye to the rules. Sort of What's good for the goose is good for the gander. What is applys to the PC applies to the NPC. In addition, House Rules are relevant for discussion. That is part of this list as I recall from "welcome to the RQ list" e-mail. I do agree with you about many players taking the skills that will gain them the most. But I also have some that will take trainging in skills that are less useful because they fit the character or they are neat. Although I ocassonlly need to nudge them on the right path. The punch may have more momentum, but the bullet has a lot more kinetic energy. Among other effects, this is why modern firearms have much greater range than any weapon relying on stored muscle power.
