Of course, Moonboats are still subject to flying/leaping/cloud-walking raiders, and a well-placed Kadone the Grounder Devotee can spell disaster to the 'boat. However, for would-be Junior Birdmen (no, wait, Junior Birdmen would be Rinliddi Avilry, wouldn't they?), Moonboats only fly during the Full Moon outside the Glowline, so the lunar magicians aboard it will be pumped up. While not many aboard the 'boat, they'd augment the normal complement of marines (Aerines?), probably with long-range "Stop Flying" magics in additioin to the normal combat beams and shields (err...), bows, arbelests, ballistae, javelins, mindblasts...

Which is where those high-speed chases through canyons come in... "Helmsman, steer far away from those low clouds!" "Clansmen, if we hop behind that hill there, we can jump aboard when they come around..."

Note that Moonboats come in all sizes, and only the largets will be the size of a galley and be armed like a B-25 bomber. - more likely would be a dispatch boat and armed with whatever persional arms & magic the crew & passengers have.
