For whatever this is worth:
Last night I happened to be rereading the description of the fall of Sartar in KoS and noticed this in the description of what happened at Runegate:
"Others watched as a huge bat, town-sized and glowing like the Red Moon itself, heavily flew into sight and clumsily swooped towards Runegate." Then, "the people of the city were seared and eaten."
Later, the Bat is described as having "lifted slowly from Rungate" and going to Boldhome to "repeat its horrifying meal."
