While the Colymar situation as Jeff describes it formed part of my own reason, it was also to do with the natural Colymar sense of superiority. They are the proud tribe, first of the Quivini, etc. Beti just knows she'll do a better job. Kallyr's a nice enough sort, but she's failed big time, and indirectly caused Beti's exile and endless heartache for her own tribe.

Of course, this opinion may well change in the course of the siege. This is only as at early 1620.

It was also for dramatic depth. Two exiled warrior queens, both in the white-walled city supporting Broyan. Not for the first time, I'm wondering if this eerie Gloranthan parallellism isn'r partually because of misremembered details and character confusion. Rereading DP, I notice I've done it once or twice.. :)
