Yah, but athletes aim to produce as flat a trajectory as possible. If you project a normal parabolic trajectory onto a mile-long throw, your javelin also flies almost a third of a mile into the air and, more to the point, will take anything up to a minute and a half to land, which makes targeting something of a problem. I prefer to think of the magical javelin as springing out more like a missile, on a flatter, faster trajectory. YJavelinsMV.
