Joerg, I think, added the idea that we can have a bridge wide enough for the two wagons it requires as a trade route, but have one point deliberately narrowed for defence purposes. This was apparently done to some C20 bridges during the Cold War. Huge blocks of stone dropped in there, that sort of thing. The size of the gap left is then determined by the GM at the time.
