Yes. Some of the timeline has to be "interpreted", but it's the only source we've got. Peter Metcalfe did a lot of work on making sense of it, I'd suggest whoever leads this talks to him.

Some, yes. Other bits we may have to discard on the assumption that the reason they appear to be nonsensical is that they're nonsensical. Various random monsters that appear on the boat trip may simply be random monsters. I think I've managed to figure out Kallyr's apparently insane/incompetent motivations for screwing it up, but for any lesser NPC I haven't even tried. Obviously that has to be re-done so that the players are heroes, not cannon-fodder, in any case.

And that's where I get cautious: I don't want to effectively contaminate the thing by touching it. Some of the ideas for what was to go in there were unpleasant attempts to over-control the GM and "teach the players a lesson" (!!), but some were pretty good. It would be nice to be able to use them.
