I like this.

From a literal perspective: Is there a southern gate on Whitewall? If not, what's on the sourthern side?

From a figurative perspective: What does the south represent? In the 4 worlds, the south was the home of the animists, so maybe there is a spirit connection? What does the south mean for Heortlings? Now, it means the sea; maybe there's a Helering link?

How can there by secret ways when you are at the top of the spike? Everything is downhill. Unless you go through the sky dome (which seems unlikely to me). Of course, Orlanth is the god of air, so he could fly. Maybe the secrets ways are through the air.

I'd leave that open to the players. There's a dragon. How does your clan feel about dragons?

I think that we could leave that off-screen if we need to. Generically, the pole star gives guidance at night. So maybe he just points the way. If the Orlanthi were flying, there would be a lot of dust in the air after the destruction of the spike. Although that sounds very mundane.
