For your interest and entertainment, here some more of my notes on Whitewall:

"Compared to Umathela, Volsaxiland does produce a significant food surplus. Indeed the valley supports an urban population of about 10K (Whitewall 2.5K, Smithstone 6K). There is a proper royal road that goes from Wilmskirk to Karse (built by King Tarkalor) - this road (and the road that runs from Smithstone to Jansholm) forms the main arterial through the land.

The High King and Whitewall gets much of this surplus. Each clan provides tribute to the High King, and Whitewall is the main Orlanthi cult center for the region and thus receives large amounts food and gifts in the form of sacrifices. Much of this tribute (both royal and divine) is stored at Whitewall in stone granaries and storage magazines. The agricultural surplus stored at Whitewall supports the elite warriors in King Broyan's retinue, the King's household, the priests and devotees of Orlanth, the mercenary warriors in his service, and the many crafters, scribes, animal tenders, and others residing within the great walls.

In bad times, the wealth stored at Whitewall provides security against famine and has allowed the Volsaxings to survive the back to back harvest failures of 1602 and 1603.

In comparison, Smithstone is a crafter's city and receives wealth in exchange for metal-working. The city is supported by trade and by generous support from the High King at Whitewall. The city's many refugees from Heortland are nearly half the population. Although the city has a king, the real rulers of Smithstone are the leaders of the various crafting guilds."
