Depends how you read the myths. The human version naturally concentrates on the knight who defeated the dragon to win the princess. There is usually a reference to several previous attempts which failed. The EWF version would concentrate on the knights who lost and warn against the odd knight who by luck or trickery might defeat them.

The Dragon probably gets special magic from snacking on princesses as opposed to peasant girls.
