One does not necessarily need a myth to perform an experiment path, a ground-breaking path as it were.

Kallyr was capable of going to that star in the heavens because her son was a priest of it's deity.

If you would prefer that there be a myth, then there are any number of "Raiding the Sky World" stories for the Orlanthi.
