I'm afraid all we know about Minaryth Blue is his "events of my life", and that gives no idea (to ne at least) why "Blue".

But this makes sense:

Younger or not, the sage is the more famous of the two.

I'm not aware of any mention of him that's definitively after the Dragonrise. But he is listed in "Kallyr's Companions": "Caster: Minaryth Purple, of Jonstown". And we have no real idea when that list was set. It's based on Orlanth's Camp, so seems likely to be from some period when she had a fixed base, so I'd tentatively place it post-Dragonrise, but not with any certainty at all.
