Yes, but knitting does not *require* solitude: in fact, in modern times, it's a common social activity! Six or so of us with knitting, tea, and gossip... The point is that it's something you can do with hands damaged by male-type labour, which was your objection.

Sure. I'm assuming we're looking at the skilled, fine, work, since this is someone wih experience. Or the small tasks like tool handles.

Also anyone who's grown up in a society that lives closer to the edge than ours. Idleness is a luxury. And I'm still not convinced that Ernaldans are especially intolerant of idleness compared to the men: Durev has "work hard" as a feat.

Probably, but an oath is still an oath. If he has to break it with *somebody* then no doubt a Vingan would be preferable, but that doesn't make it good.

Good point. Possible for Vingans, too, but less likely.
