We just suffered through this, and there were a number of effects that couldn't easily be explained by mundane physics. As things dragged on, the very air itself seemed damaged.

In my Umathela game, we were in fast forward mode at this period. Most people who were affected were unable to cast magic, but some ritual magic worked, since the resistance was +40. (That makes the crossover 10W5, which is mighty tough. We didn't play this, but if anyone had, I think they would only get to the Great Darkness.) As for the wind, within a couple weeks, winds are pretty much steadily to the north. But it seems like rather than drawing warm air from the Nargan, it's pulling away the warmth. There was no Fimbulwinter in Umathela, but there were massive troll incursions from the Jakaraki Uz. (This is extrapolated from the text in Orlanth is Dead about effects elsewhere.)

I kind of like the image of clouds running into the core effect and dying -- falling to the ground and dissipating. Where we were, there were no clouds at all.
