Giving support in Chaparral and living off the Chaparral are two different things. Because Brontosaurs are so fraking huge, if one of them dropped dead every day from the heat, that would be enough to feed a clan. Given that the time scale of Nomad Gods and Dragon Pass is measured in days, I honestly don't see how you can use the statistics as evidence they must be able to thrive on the chaparral indefinitely.
