Bookstores aren't usually the best place to get RPG material in the US.

It's been a while since I've been to any local game store, but American Eagles was always the best in terms of broad selection. Gary's Games had used books. There's a shop under Pike Place Market that has comics and games, though I don't know if they ever carried HeroQuest.
