After folk had started to play up the indigenous idea of a masculine volcano god, and reinforced the notion of Twins being very much a GL cult, it followed that perhaps the Twins didn't survive the Closing quite as well as originally thought, and the Old Ways reasserted themselves.

When Belintar appeared on the scene, some folk suggested he might have reintroduced the Twins cult in a fairly big way. When I asked Greg if this was the case, he said he didn't think so. But there's perhaps room for subtlety, and the Pharaoh could have used Twins myths -- bloke arrives from distant parts, unites with the local feminine aspects of the volcanic principle -- to aid his progression and dominion.

Irrespective of what he did, Belintar's actions would have brought him into conflict with the Veskarthan/Caladra cult, and certain myths inherent to its god. By making himself magical master of the Sixths he is often subverting existing myths (and creating his own legends) to his own benefit. Volcano gods are temperamental buggers, and don't like that.

However, it's tricky, as ever since the Lesser Darkness the volcano gods have never been wholly their own masters. Often the mythic landscape has proven more malleable to new forces, if such will throw off others that impinge upon it. (Before it gets annoyed with them aswell, and seeks new allies.) This may have been an issue.

There's another (unwritten) factor: Tessele the True. I sense she had a part to play.
