I can at least do #1.

Active magic may be a misnomer here. This is a rules issue as much as anything. The issue here is using the magic ability as an active ability as opposed to just as an augment.

In other words, can you use this ability as the primary ability in a contest to resolve something (active), or can you only use it to supplement another ability (augment).

As it stands, all common magic is augment-only until you concentrate.

All initiate level magic in Wizardry and Animism may be used as an active ability.

In Theism, an initiate has affinities, which can only be used as augments. (They can improvise feats at a penalty, however.)
