Because people play games that interest them.

Some people prefer to play farm boys who go out now and again on small adventures and come home to get the first kiss from their sweethearts.

Others prefer to play swashbuckling adventurers who travel the world seeking fame and fortune.

The trouble with playing the kind of characters that appear in Greg's fiction is that they are very limited, from a gaming point of view. There aren't that many stories by Greg, unless you count the historical writeups and myths, and even those are difficult to get hold of, unless you collect ancient fanzines. Many of his major characters are people with destinies - Snodal, Arkat, Harmast, Argrath - and people with destinies are notoriously difficult to fit into a campaign.

No, better to leave that kind of thing to fiction and roleplay someone you would enjoy rather than someone you think you should be enjoying.

See Ya
