YGWV - My Glorantha works this way. The Gods are complicated, and so you cannot always actually sever the contact with a ritual of outlawry.

Given that my old Karse game had a PC who had been outlawed, but was still a Lhankor Mhy initiate, that's what must have happened there. :)
