My ladyfriend said this all reminded her of some strange RPG settings where one isn't supposed to interact or interfere with key NPC's so as not to mess up timelines.

I find this a bizarre approach. It's like Glorantha is sill only meant for low to mid level characters. If we are supposed to be able to run games where heroes interact with and are allies or rivals of peole like Jareel, Harrek and Gunda we need a lot more information about them.

Having the statistics is definitely a good start. I can't even being to tell you guys how terribly frustrating the current approach is. I get the feeling that information is kept from me "for my own good" by "people who know better".

After a couple of decades of increasincly dedicated roleplaying and gamemastering I would think I can make those decisions myself. The biggest problem I have with my belowed Glorantha is the penchant for keeping secrets from us gamemasters and the occasional "need to know" attitude.

It's often useful to keep secrets from the players, but it's never useful to keep secrets from gamemasters... and information is always more easily discarded than created out of thin air.
