Yes. Probably.

Unless, of course, there is Just Cause. If the dead man did nothing wrong, or was unjustly slain, then the king may be obliged, by virtue of his position, to intervene. If the temple refuses, then the king may be obliged to go to war with them. Or, of course, he may just choose to stiff you and your clan because he needs the Humakti more.

This kind of apparently insurmountable problemic choice is the stuff of epic.
