Fimbulwinter is almost completely ignored in the roleplaying sources: a pity. But yes, Vinga in the Greater Darkness fought a protective, defensive war. She defended the steads, there are only a few occasions when she went on to the attack. In so far as Kallyr retains her vingan nature (strongly, I'd be inclined to argue) this will affect the decisions she makes and the type of war she engages in.
